Closing Out My AmeriTrade Account

A quick note that I am about to close my AmeriTrade account in the next five days.

I opened this account back in December 2002 to took advantage of a $75 new account bonus offer. In the last 18 months, I actually only made two transactions on RJR in this account (1 and 2) and they turned out to be a highly profitable roundtrip. Since I also have other accounts and it is a bit complicated to manage multiple accounts, I decided to have this account closed.

Actually, I still have another account at AmeriTrade as a result of the Datek-AmeriTrade merger. That account continues to be my primary trading account in after-tax investments.

Make no mistake, I still think AmeriTrade represents great value to DIY personal investors like me. It offers enough resources, as well as a flexible and cheap trading platform. If you want to join, AmeriTrade is offering various promotions for different initial deposit levels.

Three weeks ago, I reported that I had the first double-bagger, ZMEFE (MSFT Jan 05 $25 Put) in my portfolio. Thanks to the inherent volatility of options, ZMEFE has since retreated from $2.85 to $2.05, representing a mere 49% gain now. Read
