[This is a backlog for a previous trading transaction. It may not fully represent my thinking at the time of the trading.]
Today I purchased 60 shares of RJR to further invest my free cash flow.
I choose RJR mainly for two reasons:
- It's earning power is strong. Estimates are looking forward to an annual EPS of $6 or so so the 8x EPS price seems very reasonable. This well justify the risk that RJR may have some difficult time in the market.
- Dividend income: RJR issues a quarterly dividend of $0.95, which is almost 8% at my purchase price. With the strong and consistent cash flow, I don't see much danger in the dividend and thus at least I can be compensated for holding
In other words, I think RJR is a good company with long-lasting brands (enduring earning power) at a reasonable price (P/E = 8).
Disclosure: This is the first time I purchase a stock that pays a dividend.
