Monthly Review - November 2003 ($124,461, -$105)

SUMMARY

November saw my net worth dropped a bit compared to October due to $2,400 one-time expenses. In addition, OCA's weakened price sunk my portfolio too. At the end of November, my net worth is $124,461, or $105 shy of last month's number. Liquidation value is $99,079. Month-to-Retire reading retreated one month to July 2016 (last month's reading is June 2016).

INCOME STATEMENT

Total operating expenses for the month climbed to $6,468 for the month, compared to $4,706 in October and $4,375 in September. Two one-time items, $1,620 for my parents to visit us and $800 for registration to CFA program, represent bulk of the increase. Pro forma saving from ordinary operation is $862 for the month.

Investment income is negative $1,759 for the month due to suppressed OCA price.

BALANCE SHEET

OCA's unfavorable price change brings down both of my brokerage and Roth IRA accounts. Besides that, increased loan balance due to my strategy surrounding the ShareBuilder Visa Platinum is offset by saving account increase.

INVESTMENTS

S&P 500 gained 0.7% to close at 1,058 in this month. However, OCA surrendered almost 20% in the month. RJR gives me some comfort by rising 14.8% in November on top of the 21.5% increase in October.

Still, I'm keeping most of my 401(k) balance in money markets. I'm rethinking my 401(k) strategy for the next year right now.

I finally enrolled in the Microsoft SOTP program and expect to receive in excess of $3,000 after-tax money in December.

IMPORTANT PERSONAL FINANCE ISSUES

- I decided to withhold $800 more income tax in December to reduce my tax liability exposure.
