Gasbates

If you don't have a credit card with rebate on gas purchases yet, take a look at this nice round-up from CardWeb on gas-rebate cards. Don't bother to change shifts to neutral at stop to save a few drops of gas; having 5% cashback on gas purchases is worth almost one extra miles for each gallon of gas and the savings will be in your pocket in a much more painless way.

Several personal notes when you are consuming this pileup:null

- The cost quoted at the beginning assumes $2,500 revolving balance. If you pay off every month, go ahead to compare the exact feature and cash back percentage.
- Pay attention to the "Brand Required" line; some cards can give you up to 10% cashback, but only on certain brand(s). What if the brand is not available in your area?
- AAA Diamond Advantage Visa from MBNA, which I happen to own, just rewrote its rules: gas purchase is still entitled to a nominal 5% cashback, but the monthly cap is 2% of your total purchase, which means if you use it exclusively at gas stations, you can only get back 2% of the net purchase amount.
- Personally I feel the two Citi cards really stand out. (And you know from my previous writings that the Dividend Platinum Select MasterCard is my favorite.)
