"Profit from Chase" Credit Card

Just noticed that Chase is offering a new credit card product "Profit from Chase." This reward card offers one interesting feature: it gives you 3% cashback on gas, grocery OR restaurant purchases, and up to 1% cashback on all other purchases. The word "OR" is important: you will need to choose from which of the three categories to get the 3% reward (the choice can change over time).

3% cashback on gas and grocery are not attractive at all; the offer will be more than trumped by Citi's offer of 5% cashback on grocery, gas AND drugstore purchase. However, this is the first no-annual-fee card I know that offers more than 1% cashback on restaurant purchases.

My current monthly dining-out bill is close to $350, so if I can get this card, and dedicate it only for restaurants, I can get some additional $80 rebate. (The math is: $350 * 12 * (3% - 1%).) However, I applied too many credit cards recently and am in the process of getting a home equity line of credit, so I will not risk ruining my credit profile for now. I'll keep an eye on my credit score and may apply in a few months.

If you acquire this card, be sure to read the fine print: for other purchases, you can only get full 1% cashback if you keep at least $500 revolving balance. Therefore, it is not the best card for other consumptions:

The Profit From Chase Cash Award Card allows you to earn cash rebates of 3% on your choice of gas, restaurants, or grocery purchases. You earn up to 1% on all other purchases (one half percent (0.50%) in any billing cycle in which your Account has a revolving balance of less than $500, and one percent (1%) in any billing cycle in which your Account has a revolving balance of $500 or more).
