Do Not Renew Magazines Thru Attached Leaflets
Each issue of magazine contains several leaflets that promise the"best rates" and allow easy renewal. However, it is almost always a bad idea to renew thru those leaflets.
I took some time during the weekend to compare the leaflet offers for some magazines I subscribe to and the best offer shown by MagazinePriceSearch.com (which I blogged earlier as the best resource to find cheap subscription deals):
Fortune
Leftlef Offer: 26 issues/$29.98
Best Web Offer: $24.98
Web Saving: 17%
Money
Leftlef Offer: 13 issues/$14.95
Best Web Offer: $9.95
Web Saving: 33%
Forbes
Leftlef Offer: 26 issues/$59.95
Best Web Offer: $14.95
Web Saving: 75%
SmartMoney
Leftlef Offer: 12 issues/$19.97
Best Web Offer: $6.95
Web Saving: 65%
BusinessWeek
Leftlef Offer: 51 issues/$59.97
Best Web Offer: $15.26
Web Saving: 75%
As you can see, the best web offer can always beat those leaflet prices by at least 17%, and in some cases, by as much as 75%. Yes, renewal thru web will cause some duplication or missing issues, but how can you beat the 75% difference in rate?

Good Tip!
Great suggestion on renewals! You're making some bad assumptions about duplicate issues, though. If you choose the "Renew" option and enter your information exactly as it appears on your mailing label, the publisher should process the order as a renewal and you shouldn't receive any duplicate issues. If you do receive duplicate issues, contact the publisher. Most are more than happy to credit you for the duplicates and combine the two subscriptions into one. Feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions about subscriptions.
