Six-Figure Zip Codes

Are more than 70% of your neighbors making more than $100,000 a year? If so, chances are your zip code may be on the list of top 30 zip codes with the highest percentage of households earning six-figures. Topping the list are: 60043 (Kenilworth, IL), 22039 (Fairfax Station, VA), 22066 (Great Falls, VA), 94506 (Danville, CA) and 94027 (Atherton, CA). This list is compiled by real estate information provider OnBoard LLC.

To be clear, I don't give this study much credit. If your zip code is not on this list, it does not mean your community is behind the curve.

First, zip code is an abritrary level of geographic dimension. As discussed in the accompanying CNNmoney story, "[m]any high income neighborhoods fall out of the top rankings because they share postal delivery with more moderate income communities."

The $100,000 is an arbitrary number too. $100,000 a year can make you a king in some midwest areas, but you cannot even save enough for your downpayment if you live near some over-heated real estate markets.
