DeductionPro: Free for Download

Contributed by mm | January 12, 2005 4:41 PM PST

If you make a lot of charitable donations every year, you might consider using a software to track how much you donated for tax purposes. These software usually cost about $10 and they are sometimes sold for free after mail-in rebate if you purchase a tax filing software at the same time. The good news is: here is an opportunity that you can download one without the hassle of mail-in rebate.

H&R Block now offers free download of its DeductionPro 2004-2005 version at its' software store. The only thing you need to give out is the name and email; there is no email veritification or registration step and you can download the software immediately.

What can this software can do for you? It can:

- Track your deductions throughout the year. You may track cash donations, noncash donations, expense and mileage and medical/other deductions.
- For noncash donations, automatically provide a fair-market value estimate of the items you donate.
- Generate a year-end summary report for your tax filing purposes.

I don't know when this offer will end so be sure to download it now if you think you will use it. Also, you need to know this does not replace the receipts you might need to keep to prove your donations higher than $250. It's a convenient tool, but you need more than that if IRS questions the big donation deduction on your tax return.

(P.S. This deal is first mentioned at the Free Stuff forum at FatWallet.com.)
