This Year, Everyone Can File Tax For Free!

Do you know everyone can file the federal tax for free? If you are willing to spend a few more hours for saving a few more dollars, you should check out IRS's Free File Alliance information.

This year, 15 companies are offering free online tax filing for difference customer segments. Most of them offer free filings for households with Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) less than a certain figure (between $28,000 and $54,000) but TaxAct.com offers free filings for families with AGI of $28,000 or more. So, everyone is covered in the Free File program if you want to.

I decided to do DIY tax this year using TaxAct. This is the first time I file the return on my own (last year my company paid for my tax preparation). During the last year I am pretty sure I have explored lots of areas of income tax so I am pretty sure I can do it right. (I expect to owe IRS for around $1,000.) I will also use TurboTax for the Web as a safety net -- TurboTax allows you to prepare tax online for free until you print or file electronically.

If you want to file electronically but want to stay with household names (namely, between TurboTax from Quicken and TaxCut from H&R Block), you should read the ZDNet review first.
