Jim Cramer's Mad Money - October 14, 2005

Cramer is bullish on the market here. He believes that this is the bottom, meaning that you need to start buying. He likes tech, oil stocks, PG, MOT, YHOO, IR, MSFT, and PEC. He did however warn that his stance on oil stocks has changed here and that he is now interested in selling the rallies NOT buying the dips on the oils.

He believes that we are at a bottom here for numerous reasons. Any time you see the market sentiment survey percent of bulls as low as 45% you should be buying. The indicator on Wednesday was at that 45% level. He also likes the short-sale ratio which shows the discrepancy between the number of shorts put on by Wall Street specialists and retail investors. This ratio is at a 5 year high right now as retail investors are shorting 4x as much as the Wall Street specialists. Other listed positives for a market bottom include the Refco scandal and Greenspans pending retirement.

His Bottom Line for the top of the show was to buy companies of substance.

Cramer also believes that Africa is a smart place to put your money. He recommends investing in SSL, HMY, UEPS, NPSN.

In the Sell Block Cramer pieced together reasons that a stock can be deemed unownable. Red flags include repeatedly filing late, losing money (bad for an oil company at this point), production is decreasing, zero retail sales.

The Mad Money challenge is still running at www.madmoneychallenge.com

Donald Earhart, President and CEO of I-Flow Group (IFLO) joined Cramer on the show to speak on the possibilities that they may pick up some of Baxters pump business. Earhart wasnt allowed to comment directly on the specifics of the recall but he stated that the recall does highlight a growing trend in our business, where we are seeing more and more hospitals and home care providers replace their high-tech electronic programmable pumps with very simple mechanical ones like the pumps we make and sell at I-Flow. Cramer said the stock was okay but gave it the BULL.

NOTE: I've added today's closing price to each of the stocks listed below. The "m" next to the stock symbol links to the stock on moneycentral.msn.com while the "y" does the same to finance.yahoo.com. Clicking on the symbol itself takes you to a Google search of the website for that symbol.

"Bull", "Bear", "Best of Breed" and other marks can be inferred and don't necessarily need to be stated directly for me to record them as such.

Can somebody tell me what's the point of posting the tea-leaf readings of a wall street prognosticator on a personal finance blog? Is this for entertainment purposes? Or is this stuff supposed to be actually acted on? Does anybody really believe that the talking heads on CNBC can help them get superior investment returns? I'm at a loss. Why does anybody care about this prophet as opposed to all the others?

If you're that starved for entertainment, go here: www.gambler.com

If you want to know the future, go here: www.whispy.com

But if you want serious info that can help you with personal finance why do you care about this baboon?

Just wondering...

Cheers,

JC

I'm a pretty active trader, making about a dozen a week. I've come to realize that, whether I like it or not, Cramer does have the ability to influence the market to some degree. I don't know about you, but when I trade, I like to get as much information about a stock as I can. And, yes, Cramer's view is unfortunately necessary.

Bottom line is, he has an enormous audience, and a good portion of them act upon what he says. You just can't ignore that anymore. Even if you really, really want to.

Thanks JB. Curiosity satisfied...

You live in a different world than I do.

Best regards,
