Beware Advice from Cramer??

The China Stock Blog cautions readers this morning to Beware advice from Jim Cramer.

Apparently in yesterday's show Cramer mentioned that the best way to play the Chinese growth in medicine is to buy US medical companies that do business in China, such as General Electric (GE).

The China Stock Blog notes that Cramer is probably not aware of the fact that according to China Medical's (CMED) recent IPO filing GE has a substantial stake in its business.

As Cramer says, "buy and homework". In this case, as well as many others when Cramer is put on the spot with these questions it is appropriate to do more homework than he has done.

This is hardly newsworthy but I thought it fun nonetheless. Paul Kedrosky admitted today that Cramer is a guilty pleasure for him. More interestingly he also noted that "it's the only non-cartoon, non-Animal Planet show my four-year-old will watch. He literally stops cold in the ... Read

Well, a little discussed fact is that Cramer used to run an Internet technology fund, and lost 90% of his investor's money in the process. Read Jason Zweig's commentary in Benjamin Graham's "The Intelligent Investor" for damning evidence of Cramer's abysmal track record. And yet today, he's revered as a Guru investor!

This is a nice analysis of his predictive abilities...

Deconstructing Jim Cramer:
http://www.cxoadvisory.com/blog/reviews/blog6-29-05/

My favorite line:
"Mr. Cramer is right about 50% (25 out of 51) of the time with his stock market predictions."

As a point of comparison, so is a quarter. Which is described here:

"In summary, Mr. Cramer's stock market calls since May 2000 have low consistency and approximately coin-flip accuracy. He seems more an entertaining (to some) stream of uncalibrated opinion than a stock market maven."
