Car Repairs - Final Update
This blog is an update to two previous blogs, found here and here. I received a check in the mail from Bob Sumerel the other day. The check covered a refund for both the diagnosis fee and the charge for the work I had done last fall where they put on the wrong sized serpentine belt.
I come away from this experience with mixed feelings. I certainly have gained back my respect for Bob Sumerel and feel confident that they are a shop that will stand behind their work. But at the same time I think I learned a valuable lesson about car repairs in general. What still holds true is that the mechanics at Saturn will know my car and its engine inside and out, and the Saturn shop will always know (and stock) the correctly sized parts for my car.
I have decided I will continue to use Bob Sumerel for little things for both my wife's car and mine, because they are so convenient and they have won back my trust with their exceptional handling of my problem. But when my car needs major repairs, I will likely let my local Saturn shop handle that. By major work, I mean when any parts may need to be replaced.
