Car Repairs - Update
A week and a half ago, I wrote about an experience I had at a local auto shop and how I decided I would take my car to the dealer for repairs from now on. You can read about my whole adventure here. I finally received a reply late last week to the email I sent their corporate headquarters, and here is the result.
I recevied a call from the new location manager where I had my car serviced. He explained that there had been a recent management change there, and he had been forwarded my email and wanted to make things right. He was very nice and curteous and told me flat out he wanted to keep me as a customer.
After he asked me what I wanted, and what would make me happy, I told him I wanted a refund for the diagnosis fee, and a refund for the incorrect sized belt that his shop put on my car last fall. He agreed that it was a 100% fair request, so now all I have to do is fax him the receipts for the two jobs, and hell cut a check and get it in the mail to me. I guess this goes to show what a professional but harsh email can accomplish. It also is a testiment on why you should save all those old receipts! :-)
Please check out the update blog posting about receiving the refund and what I learned from this experience.

For the past 3 years, I've been living by the thinking that you don't want to go to the dealer's shop for car repairs because they're too expensive. Find a local mechanic and stick with them, after awhile they'll even give you the heads up ... Read
Year after year, conversation after conversation, I'm simply amazed at how many people don't follow this simple rule of shopping. If what you are buying will depreciate over time, then you shouldn't pay interest on it. Read
