A luxurious Alaskan cruise doesn't come cheap

Things are coming together for our upcoming cruise to Alaska. Ive now booked round trip economy class tickets for two totaling $1,549.46. And booked two nights in Vancouver -- the departure city -- at a top hotel. The hotel was booked as part of a package through the cruise line inclusive of all transfers, full breakfasts for both days, taxes and gratuities, at a cost of $1,330.00. Selecting shore excursions is about all that's left.

Costs are adding up to more than I had expected. But it's a special occasion, so were going for it!

Cost summary so far:

Cruise $8,581.00
Air: $1,549.46
Hotel & Transfers: $1,330.00

Current total: $11,460.46

$1,549 seems like a lot for airfare. I don't know when you're flying or from where, but round-trip flights from Miami, FL to Vancouver, BC can be found for about $550 a person in economy. You must be flying on a high-volume schedule (e.g. Friday/Sunday evenings) or are picky about your connection and layover preferences.
