I picked up Bose MediaMate speakers for 40% off; Great powered speaker for iPod, MP3 & computer
[10/31/05 - I'm midway though the purchase process. After more research, I've decided to make a few changes. While the Bose MediaMates at $60 / pr. are a great value -- especially for home use -- I've decided to look for something more portable. Stay tuned for an update after all the pieces are in.]
I just purchased a pair of Bose MediaMate speakers for $60 plus tax. These are powered speakers - which means they can be driven by any line source (iPod, MP3, computer, component CD player, etc.). [Read user reviews...]

I picked mine up at Sam's Club. They can also be ordered from samsclub.com.
These speakers -- now replaced by an updated model -- originally sold for $99. Click to see the updated speakers renamed Companion 2.
Im currently driving mine with an old Sony CD Walkman, and the sound is very impressive -- especially considering the price. I also tested them connected directly to a component CD player. They sounded even better.
They come with two audio cables: mini-to-RCA and RCA-to-RCA, which if bought separately, would probably run $7 - $10 each. These cables should facilitate connectivity to pretty much any source.
Because this is a discontinued model, if you're interested, you may want to move before supplies run out.
Bottom line: Unbeatable sound for the price. And because Bose holds the line on discounts, 40% off is a good value.
