Social Security Warning Label

Have you ever taken time to read the text on the first page of your Social Security Statement? Im referring to the document SSA mails each year summarizing your earnings and projected Social Security benefits.

If youre like me, you probably blast past the first page to get to the good stuff (i.e. the numbers on the inside).

Last night I took a few minutes to actually read the text. Guess what, theres a warning statement from the SS Commissioner! Heres how it starts...

For more than 60 years, America has kept the promise of security for its workers and families. But now, the Social Security system is facing serious future financial problems, and action is needed soon...

Reading the Commissioner's words got me thinking...

If the government issues health warnings on tobacco and liquor, why not put retirement warnings on financial documents -- like pay stubs and credit card statements?

To make things easier for our elected officials, I've already come up with the following draft :) ...
