Thanks go out to reader Steve who asked: How's the long-term care application process? Steves question came in response to my recent post titled "Just Paid My '05 Long-Term Care Invoice."
The process was very similar to when I applied for individual medical insurance -- except underwriting was less stringent. Where -- because I take several medications -- my medical insurance provider added an up-charge, MetLife accepted me at their standard rate.
There was also a short telephone interview. The interview centered on the questionnaire.
Here's how my application was structured...
My MetLife Long-Term Care Application (06/2004)
PART A Insurability Questions. This section consists of 15 yes / no questions. Answering yes to even one question disqualifies an applicant from receiving coverage. View Part A from my MetLife LTC questionnaire. *
PART B Person Who is Applying for Coverage. Standard personal information.
PART C Coverage You are Applying For. This section specifies the level of coverage elected, along with a variety of feature options.
PART D How You Want to Pay Premiums. This section specifies billing related information.
PART E Health Information. This section is a three page health interview. View: Part E-1; Part E-2; Part E-3. *
PART F Replacement Questions. This section asks questions related to whether or not the policy is replacing an existing policy.
PART G Agreement and Acknowledgement. Signatures.
PART H Agents Report. Completed by the agent.
Note: I highly recommend that anyone planning to buy LTC insurance do their homework and truly understand what it is that they are buying.
* Both the application process and underwriting requirements will probably vary by company.
