Finding an Annuity That's Right for You

A wrong selection of annuity can cost as much harm to your retirement as not saving enough.

From Wall Street Journal:

Broadly speaking, annuities are available in two types: deferred and immediate. Each is appropriate for different needs and different investors.

In general, deferred annuities are best suited to people still in their working years and who have at least a decade to save before retirement. Immediate annuities are best suited to retirees who don't need to accumulate more assets over time but who want a guaranteed stream of income now, which they cannot outlive.
