WorldCom's Sullivan Gets Five Years in Jail

Still, five year is too light for a key player in this multi-billion-dollar fraud.

From Wall Street Journal:

Scott Sullivan, the former chief financial officer of WorldCom who admitted to crafting the company's $11 billion accounting fraud, was sentenced to five years in prison, bringing to a close the government's three-year battle to punish executives responsible for the largest corporate fraud case in U.S. history.

Mr. Sullivan, 43 years old, was the last executive of the once-highflying phone company to be sentenced. He received a reduced sentence because he testified against his former boss and mentor, WorldCom founder Bernard J. Ebbers, who was convicted to 25 years in prison last month.

In handing down her sentence in federal court in Manhattan, Judge Barbara S. Jones said Mr. Sullivan was the "architect" of WorldCom's fraud. She also sentenced him to three years of supervised release.
