Why Common Cents?
I introduced Common Cents on May 17th. In my inaugural post, you will find a brief introduction of me and a 30,000 foot view of what I want this blog to be. Now I'd like to describe the reasoning behind the name Common Cents.
Of course it's a play on words for Common Sense -- what does that term mean to me? A couple of different things actually --
Both descriptions of the term Common Sense played a role in my decision to write under the title Common Cents.
I'm not saying that anything you read here is from a genius, or that anything I write will change the course of history. However, I believe you have to be passionate about something to be at your best at it. The writings in "Common Sense" were filled with a contagious passion that has always amazed me. The personal finance decisions we make every day will effect us for the rest of our lives and will write our legacy. That's why I'm passionate about making good decisions, and hope to share some of that passion with you.
It doesn't take a genious to make sound personal finance decisons -- working folks like us can save for retirement, send our children to college, and have enough money to live on. These aren't status symbols for the ultra-rich. So many of the decisions we need to make are simple to understand and work through after minimal research and financial tracking. I want to share how I make decisions, and learn from others in the process.
That's why it's called Common Cents.
