$50 Baseball Cap

Here's a Friday-fun post. I'm going to spend $50 dollars on a baseball cap this summer. No, it's not an ebay sports memorabilia purchase or cap made of gold, rather a brand new baseball cap from my favorite team -- the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Couldn't I get one at Wal-Mart for $15 or less? What the deal?

I'm addicted to Diet Pepsi. I pick up a 20 oz. Diet Pepsi at least once a day. Just like most all credit cards and grocery stores -- Pepsi has it's own rewards points system and I'm collecting points.

Pepsi GoPro is the summer marketing scheme that Pepsi using to coerce millions of folks to become addicted to their products. They have a handy web-based interface that allows you to enter codes found under the cap of specially marked bottles. They keep up with your point tally -- so the days of sending in cap tops or cutting out upc codes are over.

So, how did this cap end up costing $50? I need 40 points to get my prize and each soft drink gets me 1 point.

40 x $1.19 = $47.60 x 1.06 (sales tax) = $50.46

But we're not done -- add $1.50 for S&H brings the total to $51.96

This is silly, I haven't had a baseball cap on my head for 10 hours total in the past 6 months. Maybe I should collect enough points for a t-shirt. Hold on -- that t-shirt would cost me $77.18.

Thanks for reading! And if you drink Pepsi products, would you send me the Pepsi GoPro codes under the cap?mortgage calculator
