$30K Wedding Budget?
My wedding is 3 months and 17 days away. We are paying for the majority of the wedding -- and we have not discussed a budget. Are we just days away from an all-out meltdown?
Unfortunately, I found this article on cnn today about the typical price of a wedding. This sent me into major stress mode.
Ka-ching! Wedding price tag nears $30K
However, after a few minutes of thinking through this with common cents, I discovered that we're actually in ok shape. Here's why.
- Our church does not charge memebers for weddings & receptions
- We have secured a photographer and florist & paid 20% deposits for their services
- My parents are handling the rehearsal dinner
- Bride-to-be has already purchased her dress, and it's paid for
- We're working on the honeymoon, but I don't count that in the cost of the wedding - more on that later
- I also don't count the cost of her engagement ring in the cost of the wedding, but it's paid for
- The reception will be at the church, featuring finger-foods and punch. Several ladies from church have volounteered to help
There's still a lot to do, but I don't feel as bad now after listing out what we have accomplished so far. I might start a "wedding countdown" segment and discuss the ways we are saving money as the wedding approaches. Invitations are the next big hurdle.

You can save lots about $1000 on flowers if you order them from your grocery store and arrange your own bouquets. You can also order the boutineers at your grocery store.
The wedding business is huge. Flowers can be very very expensive. Bouquet can run $150 each! Boutineers - $20 each! Arrangements - $250 each!
Since some of the church ladies have already volunteered to help. Have them arrange the flowers by giving them the supplies they need: Flowers, vases, ribbon, scissors and wire.
You can cut out a large portion of your wedding expenses by "eliminating the middleman" as it relates to flowers.
