Comcast Ripoff

I got a letter this week from Comcast, our cable and internet provider. They were touting their newest service for VoIP, Comcast Voice.

Let alone that I already pay them over $110/month to get internet service (because they require digital cable for your TV to get it, or so the rep told me on the phone - anyone know otherwise?).

I signed up for Vonage when I moved. I love the service. It's quality phone service over your internet connection. I have the $25/month unlimited plan which comes out to just over $28 with taxes. It's great for unlimited minutes. Contact me if you want to try it - we can both get free month of service with their referral plan.

Only Comcast would have the nuts to bring in a competing service for over $10 more ($39.95/month) while rumors abound that they are blocking competitor's traffic.

Coincidence that my Vonage router stopped working that exact week? I have another one on order because Vonage thought the router was bad. We'll see. I'll report back when I try again.mortgage calculator

While Comcast might be different by you, when I had cable internet in Oregon, I actually was able to work the deal in my favor. 120 or so channels are way too much for me, so I signed up for their "limited basic" service. This is more or less your local channels, HD locals, and Discovery. The cost was about $8, but I received a "multi-package" discount of $10 for a net of $2 off my cable internet bill of $50.

After moving to California, I now have Adelphia and was able to subscribe to cable internet ONLY. I am fine with rabbit ears for the TV although I did have to convince the operator that I did not need any of the other "benefits" of cable.

I also have Vonage and use it extensively. The e-mail your voicemails is a wonderful feature while traveling and unlimited US/Canada/Puerto Rico is great.

Comcast internet does not require digital cable. I live in the Denver area and pay $45/mo for my high speed internet connection and $13/mo for the most basic cable package offered.

Two comments that indicate that Comcast reps are full of sh*t. Who would have guessed? ;-)

Thanks for letting me know. I'll call back up and give them hell.

I still use $10/month dialup! I'm waiting until I can get DSL or cable Internet service for $20. Might be a while ...

I've been using packet 8 (www.packet8.net). Just like Vonage but $5.00 cheaper a month. I think my monthly bill is 21.55.
