Why I Love SLASX

Those of you with a number of mutual funds know the overwhelming amount of paper mail you get from these companies. Most of the time there is no way to keep up with it. That said, I always read the publications from Selected Funds. The Davis Family runs the company and their discussion and analysis is always excellent. I'm an owner of Selected American Shares (SLASX).

Final thoughts from Shelby M.C. Davis in their recent publication "Opportunities in Stocks for Uncertain Times" reads:

... I remain optimistic at heart because I have seen over the course of my long career that betting on capitalism, business enhancement, economic resilience, and stocks as an asset class has always been a good choice in the long run, irrespective of the worries that preoccupy investors at any particular moment in the short term. In addition, the possibility of compounding wealth over the next generation in equities seems to me as feasible today as ever, provided we work hard to stay aware of change, maintain a discipline of buying durable business at intelligent prices and keep revisiting holdings in the context of changing circumstances. That to me is good reason to see the glass as half full.

Benjamin Graham is smiling somewhere. I am too with 30% returns over the last year and a half with these guys at the helm.
