Welcome to the Huddle
Many thanks to MM for his invitation to join the pfblog.com team. I'd like to take this time to introduce myself a bit and talk about the content readers can expect to see in my blog.
[Update 1/14/06: My business model and direction has changed a bit so I have made some updates to this post to provide the correct picture for readers. Changed areas are in red.]
I became interested in personal finance following the loss of approx. $15K in the stock market around the years 2000-2002. Until that time I thought personal finance was "investing" and 1999-2000, I believed, had taught me that I was in fact quite good at it. I learned my lesson on the way down and became *very* interested in how to "do this right" the next time.
After 10 years as a youth leadership mentor my partners and I have taken the material we've developed around a week long leadership conference and extended it to be used in the Leadership Training and Experiential Education field in a proprietary team training model. About the same time as this idea was forming, I began classes to become a certified financial planner (CFP) and set my sights on becoming a financial and success coach for my clients. As of this writing I have completed 14 months of classes to earn my graduate certificate in financial planning. I have opted, however, not to sit for the CFP exam as my professional and personal priorities have since shifted. I have also cut back on my client load, however I still maintain a small client base and continue to write on personal finance subjects.
My practice areas focus on prudent mutual fund investing for the long term, personal and marital budgeting, credit and identity management, and other financial planning such as tax and insurance as needed. I wrap all of this with a success model that focuses on teaming with clients to reach "another level" of success. I believe leadership training is not just an addition to financial planning, but much more a foundation for such planning.
Financial stress is a roadblock to success for clients of all ages. I will aim to help you, my fine readers, overcome that roadblock on your path to all the things you want to achieve.
Many thanks and keep reading.
Readers may notice a trend in my, and indeed in all, pfblog.com posts. That trend is the seemingly maniacal obsession with squeezing just one more point of interest or appreciation out of every single transaction. Clients often question my obsession with low mutual fund fees ... Read
