Concerts in Central Park
The New York Philharmonic is one of the many great things about New York City. Unfortunately, their concerts tend to be a bit pricey for those of us looking to cut back expenses and increase savings.
Luckilly for us, you can enjoy the Philharmonic for free with their Concerts in the Parks series. How can you turn down free entertainment from some of the most talented musicians in the world?
Last night, I enjoyed an all-Dvořák concert, free, on the Great Lawn in Central Park. Good friends came together to sit on blankets, socialize, drink some decent wine, and enjoy the music.
The evening wasn't entirely free, of course. Transportation cost a couple of bucks between the PATH from Newark to New York, the subway from Penn Station to the Park, a shared taxi ride from the Park back to Penn Station, and a NJ Transit ticket from New York back to Newark, where I picked up my car. The wine I brought was purchased a few months ago.
This summer's concerts are over, so this is coming a little bit after the fact. Luckilly, there are still free events in Central Park: Shakespeare in the Park is presenting Two Gentlemen of Verona (The Musical). There are tons of events at the SummerStage as well, including the Upright Citizens Brigade (my favorite New York Improv) tomorrow night.
